utun0 and utun1 interfaces

I have 2 virtual interfaces utun0 and utun1 these interfaces are used for VPN's. I have removed the VPN from my computer and the interfaces are still there.

utun1 disappears and reappears. How can I find the applications that are using these virtual interfaces?

MacBook Pro, macOS High Sierra (10.13.5)

How do I know which applications are creating utun interfaces? I can see multiple utun* interfaces from the output of the ifconfig command. I know utun0 and utun1 are system interfaces. utun2 is the tunnel interface for my VPN client. But I cannot find out which application is creating utun3-6 interfaces. I also don't see them in the netstat -rn output.
