Pages 09 space between number and currency sign in tables

Hello everyone, I'm having a curious issue in Pages 09 (yes, I still use it — I didn't like the new dumbed-down version that came after it);

I have this four-year old Pages document that's essentially a very long table, that I use for monthly expense tracking. It has just two columns, one for the item decription and one for the item price. I have the right column's Cell Format set as Currency and Euro (€) and there is a space between the euro sign and the number. It looks kind of like this:

ItemPrice
Contraband€ 1.000

Today, I created a new, essentially identical table from scratch and when I changed the cell format to Currency and then to Euro (€), I noticed there's no space between the number and the euro sign anymore. So, like this:

ItemPrice
Contraband€1.000

I really like to have the space between the number and the sign (feels more legible) and I can't for the life of me figure out how to achieve that (or how, if at all, I did it in the first place four years ago). If I compare the inspector panel between the old and the new document, they look identical (decimals: 0, thousands separator: on, accounting style: off,...). If I try to add the space manually, it just goes away back, when I leave the cell. And it doesn't matter which currency I choose.

However, if I copy a currency cell from the old document with the space to the new one, the space magically reappears (but not if I Paste and Match Style). Anyway, I'm sure there must be a setting for this somewhere, I just can't seem to find it. Hope someone here could help me : )

Merci!

Hi Aethevig,

Have you looked at the format panel again after pasting the copy from an earlier document?

If it still looks the same with that cell selected, it would indicate there was a change in that format definition at some time between the older document and the current one.

You may find, though, that you applied a "custom style" to the currency cells in the older document, and that is what you have pasted into the newer one.

Either way, you should be able to copy and paste that format into other cells in the same document, and into other cells in other documents.

To copy a format:

Click on a formatted cell to select it.

Press option-command-C to copy the style.

Select the target cell(s).

Press option-command-V to pastethe style.

Barry

Here's a sample using Pages 5.6.2. The cell in column B uses the Currency—Euro format.

The cell in column C contains the same value, formatted as currency using a custom format, shown below the table.

Here's the editing panel for the Custom format.

The three tokens were dragged from the list below the Custom Format box. I chose € as the currency symbol, and .00 (fill in trailing zeroes) from the menus in the tokens, then clicked between the € token and the integer token, and typed a non-breaking space (option-space bar) to place a (narrow) space between the € and the number.

Hello everyone, thank you for your answers and sorry for the late reply. Summer called for more exciting things than tables, so it has slipped my mind a bit.

I came across the Custom Cell Format about 5 minutes after I posted my initial query (thanks anyway Barry). So while I can now (re)create this space and all is well in my little OCD world, the mystery of that original file still haunts me.

The thing is, that that space doesn't appear to have been created by using the Custom Cell Format. If I click on the cell, the Cell Format shows Currency, not Custom. And the Accounting Style is a completely different thing altogether, as someone has already pointed out.

As I am at my wits' end, I figured I can just upload a pages document with one currency cell copied from the original file (with space) and one without, made from scratch. Hopefully, someone smarter than myself can then figure out how/where they differ and how it came to be that way. Is it possible to upload it here directly or do I need to put it on an outside server/Google Drive?
