samsung t5 software

I have the samsung T5 500GB SSD and have loaded the "SAMSUNG PORTABLE SSD" software on my MacBook Pro 10.13.5. When I open it I get "No portable ssd software was found on this system" message. Now, I have gone into Mac preferences and allowed software to be loaded, I have uninstalled and re-installed the samsung app, I have opened up terminal and put in various commands, none of which has worked..does anyone know what the issue is and how to solve it..

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

Hi Allan

It works fine but its just the fact that it comes with software for the macOS that doesn't seem to work and from what I have read so many users have had the same problem. In my workflow the drive works as it should, its just the software..I know I may be a bit picky but we pay for kit so the kit should work. And the T5 was the new kid on the block when it came out.

thanks allan

Hey sugabear007,

I see that you're having some trouble with your external hard drive. I'd like to help out.

For the MacBook to detect and use the hard drive, be sure to format it properly. Here's how: Disk Utility for macOS Sierra: Erase a volume using Disk Utility

Let us know if the hard drive is detected after following these steps.

Take care.

hi chris

my MacBook detects the hard drive and the hard drive is operating as it should. the problem I am having is when I try to open the Samsung Portable SSD software. I keep getting the message "NO PORTABLE SSD SOFTWARE WAS FOUND ON THIS SYSTEM, DO YOU WANT TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE". even though I have installed the software onto my Macbook and it has successfully installed. Yet when I try to open it I get that message I have already tried the steps outlined in the link on a few occasions but no joy. I have plugged the drive into a windows machine, loaded the software and it works perfectly. Other people have had the same issue but I have not been able to come across a solution..

ps...the software enables the user to encrypt the drive, I am able to read and write from the drive with no problem (drag and drop)..its the software that samsung supply which is meant for the macOS system that seems to be the issue..

your thoughts are very welcome..

In general the software that comes bundled with external drives is close to useless on Macs. You don't need their software for Time Machine and Disk Utility, also built into the macOS can do any formatting or repair that is needed. Will the drive work at all without the software?
