An authorized Apple repair shop called and said they needed my iCloud username and iCloud password before they could work on my phone. Wanted me to text it to them. Is this needed to fix a iPhone?

Do repair shops need your iCloud username and password to fix your phone?

You can remove the iPhone from your Apple ID remotely. If you're using iCloud and Find My iPhone on the device, sign in to iCloud.com or the Find My iPhone app on another device, select the device, and click Erase. After the device has been erased, click Remove from Account. As long as the phone can connect to a network, this should do the trick.

If you haven't backed up the phone, I would retrieve the phone from the shop, back it up, sign out of iCloud on the phone then erase the phone before giving it back to them.

They aren’t asking for me to unlock the phone. They are asking me to text them my Apple ID username and password because claim they can’t work on the phone without this. I’m stationed in Bahrain which doesn’t have an Apple store and sometimes these people are shady so I was asking if they really needed this just to replace a screen.
