Gimp slow startup fonts issue

Has anyone figured out a simple solution to this annoying problem loading the open-source photo editing app Gimp? The startup message is something like: Wait for fonts to load, this can take a while

And it does. A real long while.

Elsewhere on the net folks say it's a fonts cache problem. One Windows user reports a solution by deleting the fonts cache file and letting it rebuild the next time you start Gimp. In that case, it's a one-time problem – once repaired the app starts in mere seconds.

Come on fellow mac hackers, let's not be defeated by Windows users. Can someone find a solution, please?

Mac mini (Late 2014), macOS High Sierra (10.13.1), Samsung SSD 500G

This is normal for all Gimp users.

Nothing to fix. Patience is a virtue. My only recommendation is don't quit the app once it is fully loaded. Sleep the computer, no need to shut down.

You can contribute to the open source Gimp Project: https://www.gimp.org/develop/
