Using a Verizon Jetpack 791L with an Airport Time Capsule

Is there any way to connect an Airport time capsule to a Verizon Jetpack 791L? Since there is no ethernet connection on the Jetpack, there is no way to directly connect to the Airport time capsule. Does anyone have a work around?

If you are saying that your requirements call for the Time Capsule to broadcast a wireless network signal for your devices, it can only do this with a wired Ethernet connection at the Time Capsule WAN "O" port.

So, you have two basic options:

1) Exchange the current Jetpack for another model that does include an Ethernet port. This is the simplest solution, and also the most reliable solution.

or

2) Try Using a wireless bridge like an AirPort Express to "join" the wireless network that the Jetpack is producing. The Ethernet port on Express models A1264 and A1392 are enabled when you do this, so this will provide the Ethernet connection that the Time Capsule needs to create a new wireless network

Note.....option 2) is not foolproof. If you decide to try this, expect to restart the AirPort Express and Time Capsule a few times a month on average.

Used A1264 AirPort Expresses are readily available for $30-40, if you don't want to spend $100 for a new Express.

If the TC is for backup of computers it can be setup independently of the hotspot.. plugged by ethernet into a Mac with ethernet port or using a dongle like thunderbolt or usb to ethernet.

It is harder to use stand alone by wireless because you then need to swap between the Verizon and the TC.

Using ethernet it is possible to use both ethernet and wireless at the same time.. so you can both use internet and backup.. the setup is a bit tricky but possible... however I would recommend a USB drive plugged directly into the computer is a better, faster and more reliable solution.

OR

You put a wireless bridge in front of the TC.. e.g. airport Express.. which can pickup the connection and pass an IP over ethernet to the WAN of the TC.. it is not a great way.. but a possible way around the problem.

If you don't already own an express you can get cheaper and better wireless bridges.. so don't jump in without waiting for advice.

Tell us what you need the TC for?? How does the Verizon hotspot fail to cover what you currently use the TC to do?

We have, in the past, used the TC as the house network hub for wireless devices (computers, printer, iPads, phones and lights). We switched to the jetpack because our line of sight internet provider was unreliable and costly (live in a rural area). We would still like to use the TC as some sort of network hub especially for printer and computers.
