Blackmagic eGPU with bootcamp?

Does anyone know if the Blackmagic eGPU will work with bootcamp? Theres some applications that I run in Windows that this would be perfect for. But I don't want to spend the money if its not supported with Windows.

MacBook Pro TouchBar and Touch ID, macOS Sierra (10.12.1)

You will either need to install the drivers for the eGPU first and then connect, or create a Windows System Restore point prior to connecting the eGPU.

It already does, see Use an external graphics processor with your Mac - Apple Support and specifically,

Also note that macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later doesn't support eGPUs in Windows using Boot Camp or when your Mac is in macOS Recovery or installing system updates.

The current method is hacking through and creating a potentially unstable solution. Caveat Emptor.

Step 1. Ran DDU and turned off auto driver installation in windows settings

Step 2. Used the USB key method for the efi trick

Step 3. Not applicable for my machine (2016 13in MBP nTB)

Step 4. Fixed error 12 with combination of step 2 and disabling the iSight/FaceTime camera

That at got rid of all errors except for Error 31 (no driver).

I then went to device manager, clicked on the eGPU and clicked Update Driver-Update Driver Through Windows Update. Windows update found and installed the correct AMD driver and the AMD utility/AMD XConnect.

A couple random restarts and hangs at first but then runs smoothly. I keep the Blackmagic plugged in at all times and can boot into High Sierra or Windows 10 1803 at will. I keep the USB key with the EFI trick plugged into the back of the Blackmagic.

I have been testing this for the last few days trying to get it to work with bootcamp windows.

it is possible but its alot of effort and only a few people "claim" they have been able to get the right drivers to make it work. The effort of getting any egpu to work on boot camp requires alot of time and effort.

read this https://egpu.io/forums/thunderbolt-enclosures/us699-apple-blackmagic-rx-580-egpu /paged/2/

and do what ever you can if you have a 2016 MacBook pro though its way too much effort.

Success!!!!!

it is a huge pain the backside to get it working on bootcamp with a 2016 macbook pro 15 inch

But key things to remember is to:
- install the Intel HD graphics drivers for the 530 THEN use the iGPU switch intergrated.bat
- YOU HAVE TO plug the egpu on the RIGHT SIDE FOR AMD because it won't work on the left side no idea why but anyway.
- you have to disable the left side thunderbolt ports, you have to also disable the web cams.

Lastly it only seems to work via HDMI output it refuses to output to the 5k thunderbolt display.

I have the internal display runing off the intel graphics 530 and I have the 4k display over hdmi running, and then I had to daisy change to my thunderbolt HDDs.

ALSO you have to ALWAYS boot using the USB apple efi usb thing.

All in all, this was not worth the day I spend wasting to get it working. But I can say now that the Blackmagic Egpu is compatible with bootcamp windows 10.

I tried and failed. I am not as technically adept as some of the other users here. I had Windows 10 working fine under bootcamp on a new MBP. With Windows open plugged eGPU into right rear port. Windows detected the device and after a few seconds the laptop screen went blank. No signal out from eGPU HDMI. Disconnected eGPU but could not get laptop screen back. Spent hours with Apple support trying to simply recover my Windows 10 boot but unable. Had to reinstall everything on my laptop from ground zero in order to reinstall bootcamp / Windows 10.

Apple should provide a BIG WARNING. If you naively plug an eGPU into a laptop and then launch Windows under bootcamp it messes up the Windows configuration and as far as I can tell it is unrecoverable.
