Using iMovie to edit a Video_TS file

I am running iMovie 10.1.9 on an iMac running OS High Sierra 10.13.5. I haven't used iMovie since I abandoned my PowerPC a few years ago, and am not familiar with this version. Here's my question(s): Can I import a Video-TS file directly into iMovie, or do I need to convert it? If converting is necessary, what format will yield the least loss? What software should I use to convert?

Hi, Jack,

You would need to convert the VIDEO_TS.VOB files to Mp4/AAC. Most people on this forum use the free download, Handbrake, to do it. Handbrake will convert to Mp4/AAC by default. Then you can import the converted files into iMovie.
