Removing Duplicates from iPod

I have an iPod touch, 6th edition.

Currently I have a large number of songs that are duplicated on my iPod -- entire albums where every song appears twice, making playing through the album awkward. Curiously, these tracks are NOT duplicated in my iTunes library that syncs with the iPod -- only on the iPod itself. Because of this, the "detect duplicates" in iTunes does not help me.

Is there a way to make the iPod recognize the duplicate songs and either automatically delete one copy of each to match my iTunes library, or at least list them directly so I don't have to go through my entire library album by album trying to figure out which are duplicated?

Hello kcostell,

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities. I understand you've had some trouble with duplicate songs on your iPod touch, and I have some information that may help.

In cases like this where the duplicates are not coming from duplicated songs in your iTunes library, it may be helpful to un-sync your music from your iPod, and then re-sync it using iTunes. You can do so with the steps below:

1 - Plug your iPod into your computer and open iTunes.
2 - Select the icon for your iPod at the upper left.
3 - Select the music tab from the left hand side of iTunes.
4 - Uncheck the "Sync Music" box.
5 - Click the "Sync" button at the lower right corner of iTunes.

After all the music has been un-synced, re-check the box and then sync again to return your music to your iPod touch. For more information on syncing, check out the article below.
