Time Machine back up access

Hi,

I'm running El Capitan on a 27" iMac. I've had time machine backing up since April which it has been doing without a problem. However, I've just tried to go into the app to receiving something and the app won't open. I doesn't do anything, just bounces a couple of times and then nothing. I've tried opening from the dock and the app folder.

Any advice?

Thanks

Mark

Are you backing up to a Time Capsule?

Can you mount the disk in Finder? If not it could be any number of issues.

If the disk mounts in Finder but you still cannot open Time Machine backup.. hold down the option key while you click the Time Machine icon.. and try to do a verify of the backup.

No luck give me more info..

Can you mount the TC disk in Finder? Or if it is not TC what target are you using?

I assume you are talking about Time Machine and you want to recover something???

By TC I assume you mean Time Machine.

I can manually access the drive and backup files, which is what I had to do to retrieve the file I required.

Ok.. at least you were able to find the file.

Time Machine is far from reliable. Even on pre-Sierra computers I have now given up on Time Machine as reliable backup and use Carbon Copy Cloner.

About all I can suggest is to reset Time Machine which is kind of painful.. especially if you have upgraded the Mac OS in the past.

See this post for details.
