2TB SSD in 2011 iMac 27"?

I have a 2011 iMac 27" 2.7ghz with a failed hard drive (1TB). Currently, it will need the replacement hard drive to reinstall the operating system. Short of that, it's a vegetable. I would like to replace the primary hard drive with a 2TB SSD. Is a 2TB SSD drive compatible with this model or does it need to be 1TB SSD? The new 2TB SSD hard drive is 3.5" and I have the SATA 3 cables and screws. Is there anything else I would need to prepare for installation?

2TB will work, I STRONGLY recommend using the OWC kit. You can find a 2TB kit including all tools and necessary cables at www.macsales.com. The reason I recommend OWC is the drives work, do not require TRIM and when you order the upgrade kit for your iMac it's 100% complete.

Many people will use other SSDs and have trouble due to not doing their complete due diligence. They think they're saving money when they are not.
