My Safari search is being invaded by legit-looking Mac warnings about viruses, with a phone number to call that's some private company. Then McAfee virus protection messages appear. Is this happening to others?

My MacBook's Safari search is being interrupted by a Mac-looking warning about viruses. There's a phone number that connects with some computer company, then McAfee Virus protection pages keep coming up. Terrible nuisance! Are others having this problem? This is my 2nd day of it.

MacBook, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)
