Cannot select songs from Itunes for slideshow

Look at the song Info in iTunes, the last tab with the file info.

It must not show "Protected AAC" or Apple Music for the "Kind" and the iCloud Status must not be "Waiting". It should be downloaded from iCloud. For example, the file below is grayed out in a slideshow, because it needs downloading from iCloud.

Practically all of my music has no DRM, none is in the cloud.

Have you checked this recently? Perhaps a recent iTunes update enabled cloud features or you accidentally enable Apple Music, since iTunes keeps nagging to use these features.

Have you checked the file format of the songs you want to use and cannot use in the slideshow? You can see this in the Info panel for the song.

Even songs purchased from iTunes may be protected, if you purchased them long ago.

It may be the network access, but did you enable the following preference in iTunes:

iTunes > Preferences > Advanced > Share iTunes Library XML with other applications?

This helped me to make my library visible in in Photos. If it is not enabled, enable it, then log off and on again or restart the mac.

I also have this issue, I followed your instructions to check if the file was protected and it is not noted. However, even music I purchased years ago will not download. I looked at the one song that is available to use for the slideshow and the file content looks exactly the same as the ones I can not use...

Ideas for how I can put music on a slideshow asap? Thanks in advance for any help

I specifically bought an album (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire) to play for a slideshow but it will not allow me to choose it as it is grayed out on my iTunes list of music.

My info says: "Apple Music AAC audio file". iCloud status "Purchased" If I bought it outright from iTunes then shouldn't I be able to use it for a slide show?

I hope the slideshow will turn out great. I never thought of using the Harry Potter theme music for a slideshow, but I'll try the next time I need a backing track.

Yes, you should. Unless you purchased an item that is still protected. But the newer items at the iTunes Store are usually not protected.

When you are viewing the song in iTunes, is there a download arrow, when you view the album? Even a purchased song may still need downloading.

You are right! It didn’t show up when I opened iTunes to look at my playlist but when I went to my purchases list there was the download arrow. Now it comes up on my slideshow list of music to choose. Thank you so much!!
