MacBook Air requires force-restart

For the last couple of months, on many occasions, my MBA 13-inch doesn't wake up from sleep.

When I open the lid, it just shows a blank screen and does not respond to any key. The only way to start using the MBA is to press the power button for a few seconds until the device reboots. I am afraid that this may harm the storage disk.

I have tried reinstalling the OS (and have the latest OS at this time), have done an SMC reset as well as a PRAM reset.

I appreciate your help, thanks in advance.

Greetings shashikiranu,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! I understand your MacBook Air doesn't wake from sleep as expected, requiring you to force the Mac to restart by holding down the power button.

Nice job with the troubleshooting steps you've attempted to resolve the issue. To help isolate the behavior, I suggest testing the issue with starting the Mac in safe mode, and testing a different user account with the Mac. See those steps from the following guides: Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac & How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac

Let me know how the provided suggestion works for you.

Kind regards.
