Duplicate Applications Folder

Folks,

Today I noticed that I have a duplicate Applications folder on my Macintosh HD directory. Not sure why. I made sure that all the applications/programs were identical to the "normal" and required Applications folder in User/Username/ and then, based on some posted advice in this forum "just trash it".

Except of course the OS tells me that

“Applications” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by macOS.

How can I get rid of this accidentally duplicated Applications folder? Some individual progs/apps can be removed via Trash, not so the programs that came with the OS.

I'd like to get rid of it. If you know how let me know please.

Cheers!

iMac, macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

Applications should live in the /Applications folder in the vast majority of cases.

You can ignore the User/Applications folder.
