iPhone X locked up

iPhone x

On latest iOS 11.4.1

This morning reading webpage on it, it locked up.

Will not respond to touch, lift to wake, power down or synch with computer.

All I see sometimes is apple logo and then thin white line at bottom and down left side.

Or a white mushy screen.

I cant connect it to my laptop as it looses connection.

I cant do the button reset / shutdown.

It has gone into emergency mode twice by sounding alarm and ringing number when I have held the buttons.

If i keep taping the screen it does partially wake up with button pressed but taking several seconds to respond.

However screen is unreadable mush or just lines. Occasionally I see the web page it locked up on but like looking through fog.

If it does show web page the time is showing the locked up time.

FaceID is not activating. (or locking phone)

Bluetooth is working as its connected to iwatch and my car radio and plays music.

I have a genius appointment but the earliest I could get is saturday.

Currently I am trying to run down the battery so it shuts down and hopefully it will reset itself.

In meantime any ideas please.

From the pics I would say it’s a display chip issue, almost like I experienced on a MacBook a long time ago, fine when first turned on but when warmed up the screen started breaking up, for that it was a complete main board replacement.

I say that because the rest of the internals you say appear still to be working, music and Bluetooth for example.

Think Apple is your only option with this one.

It’s a hard one to pin down just by looking, but the Genius’s have a bit of kit they plug in that will probably narrow it down as soon as you walk in, then depending how involved the repair you might walk out with a replacement, it could just be a loose connector which involves screen removal.

I had my screen replaced a while back, from walking in to going out was about an hour, they even kept my X in a soft bag while handling it away from the repair station, all in very good service.

Mind you, I did warn the Genius if I found any marks on my pride and joy...

Just an update on this.

Eventually managed to drain the battery and restart the phone and also connect it to itunes, which said phone was corrupted.

However after downloading the restore file the phone still is very sick and I cannot see anything meaningful of the screen (basically same as before).

So guess it will be a swap out at the genius bar on saturday.

Yes, it might be so.

It had been on charge overnight and it was only 5 minutes after taking it off charger it locked up.

It was not hot as it had charged over night.

Luckily I have a spare phone (not iPhone :-( ) but that will keep me going till saturday. (genius appt)

Hopefully the battery will be flat well before then and I can reboot it, if not at least synch my data.

Appears screen easy to change, they don’t have to touch the sensors or camera assembly I’m reliably informed, the back is another matter, the whole device has to be dismantled, not sure about the other internals because things like the battery are now in ā€œpartsā€, suppose it’s a time cost exercise, especially if it’s Apple’s money!
