System wide spelling with custom dictionary files

Spelling does not work with custom dictionaries (greek). I have added dictionary files (.aff and .dic) to the spelling folder in my Library folder, but even when setting the spelling setting to "Greek (Library)" in System Preferences > Keyboard > Text > Spell Checking, or within the application (Mail, TextEdit) it looks like it does not recognize the language.

Even when I try to manually run the spelling from the "Show the spelling & grammar" window, it does not recognize any word. Only when I type the word in the top box and use the "Guess" function it looks though the custom dictionary files and predicts the correct work.

Interestingly, Microsoft Word works fine.

Any ideas? Thanks!

MS Word does not use any Apple spellcheck services, it has it own.

Have you made sure that your spellcheck dictionary in system prefs/keyboard/text/spelling and in Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Show Spelling and Grammar is set to Greek and not "automatic"? Automatic does not work with 3rd party dictionaries.

Where did you get your .dic and .aff?

You should provide the actual url so we can avoid suggesting duplicate sources.

Have a look at this page, there is a link for Greek but I don't know if it is still good.

I have one that seems to work, but not sure where I got it, and I am on 10.11, which may make a difference. I could send you the files if you provide an email. These words are marked because of missing accents.
