System wide spelling with custom dictionary files

Spelling does not work with custom dictionaries (greek). I have added dictionary files (.aff and .dic) to the spelling folder in my Library folder, but even when setting the spelling setting to "Greek (Library)" in System Preferences > Keyboard > Text > Spell Checking, or within the application (Mail, TextEdit) it looks like it does not recognize the language.

Even when I try to manually run the spelling from the "Show the spelling & grammar" window, it does not recognize any word. Only when I type the word in the top box and use the "Guess" function it looks though the custom dictionary files and predicts the correct work.

Interestingly, Microsoft Word works fine.

Any ideas? Thanks!

You should provide the actual url so we can avoid suggesting duplicate sources.

Have a look at this page, there is a link for Greek but I don't know if it is still good.

Yeah I have tried setting the dictionary to Greek in both locations but no luck.

I downloaded the openoffice dictionaries that includes a large set of languages and I only copied the .dic & .aff for greek in the spelling folder.

I think they work since the "Guess" function of the "Show Spelling and Grammar" window is actually showing the Greek word predictions.
