64-bit drivers for CanoScan scanner?

OK, in preparation for the upcoming end of 32-bit support in MacOS, I've started checking/updating my software/drivers to 64-bit. Unfortunately, my CanoScan scanner only has 32-bit driver software, and Canon no longer makes drivers for MacOS but refers you to Apple as they include drivers for Canon products now.

I'm guessing that El Capitan only included 32-bit Canon drivers as VueScan 9x32 works but 9x64 doesn't. Do either Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave include 64-bit Canon drivers?

All printer and scanner drivers are provided by the device manufacturers. However that being said, you can always use Image Capture for your scanner in case Canon's 32bit version does not work in the future. In addition, you also can likely use VueScan (https://www.hamrick.com/) too. This is a paid app and is very useful when manufactures drop support on their legacy scanners. They have a trial version you can use before buying. You may want to contact them to ask about 64bit versions of their drivers.

Apple only provides the drivers that the manufacturer provides them. If Canon does not have any on their website then all you can try is the latest Canon drivers from Apple which are Canon Printer Drivers v3.4 for OS X and about 1 year old.

I have an older Canon scanner, Canoscan 8600F and it only works with the 32 bit VueScan. When macOS 10.15 is released that scanner will have to be relegated to the recycle bin.

You can always have an external HD that is setup with your current system so it can boot and run the 32 bit VueScan when you need it.

Thank you for that link. Do you know if there is a list included of the Canon scanner drivers it supports and if they are 64-bit?

I went ahead and ordered a new scanner from Amazon; I wanted to get a CanoScan LiDE 700F but they were only available as used, not new, so I ordered a CanoScan LiDE 220. Canon DOES have drivers for it that work up through High Sierra.

😁 You obviously mis-read my post as you provided erroneous "answers" to questions I never asked.

In my first paragraph I said that Canon now REFERS you to Apple for drivers. This is because they DO NOT have them for El Capitan and later. BTDTNT

In my second paragraph I SPECIFICALLY said that VueScan 9x32 works just fine but 9x64 does NOT. I've been using VueScan for several years, ever since Image Capture went Tango Uniform. According to Ed, he doesn't think Canon will release 64-bit drivers for their scanners so he can't update VueScan 9x64 to work with Canon scanners.

The first paragraph was the basis for my question in the third paragraph.

I know of no list of 64 bit apps or software. However, there is a way to get info on all of the apps that are installed on your Mac. Hold down the Option key and go go the  menu and select System Information. Once in the SI app click on Applications in the sidebar. Once the scan is complete click use the File ➙ Print ➙ Print to PDF menu option.

You'll get a pdf file that is structured as follows:

Canon MG7700 series:

Version: 13.4

Obtained from: Unknown

Last Modified: 03-30-18, 11704 AM

Kind: Intel
64-Bit (Intel): Yes

Location: /Users/toad/Library/Printers/Canon MG7700 series.app

HP LaserJet P2035n:

Version: 11.4

Obtained from: Unknown

Last Modified: 07-10-16, 08751 AM

Kind: Intel
64-Bit (Intel): Yes

Location: /Users/toad/Library/Printers/Gutenberg Press.app

All apps on any connected drive will be listed.

There's an app, 32-bit Checker, that will list all 32-bit apps in any folder you drag and drop onto the app.
