MacOS could not be installed on your computer

Hi Folks!

We're getting this really strange error when trying to reinstall macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 on an iMac 5k Fusion Drive:

MacOS could not be installed on your computer.

Invalid Request

Quit the installer to restart your computer and try again.

Anyone else seen this?

iMac with Retina 5K display, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

You split the fusion drive?? It is not clear, oh I see the link says "fix" the Fusion drive. So maybe you had some issues here—non the less

I do know APFS is not ready for Fusion drives.

Typically HFS+ format can be forced from the installer from the command line:

/Applications/Install\ macOS\ High\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/startosinstall --converttoapfs NO

If I open fire up Terminal from Recovery Mode and type ‘diskutil info disk1’ (disk0 is my 3TB hdd, disk1 is my 128gb ssd), the SMART Status is “failing”. I haven’t tried this yet, but if I were to split my fusion drive and install High Sierra on just the hdd, I’m betting it would probably work. I may just try it out to verify my hypothesis - that the failing install is due to a failing ssd bound in a fusion drive.

Hi! Thanks for the response!

So yes, hardware definitely meets requirements. It's an iMac 5k 2015. We booted into a 10.13.6 macOS install booter created from this link: How to create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support

Then we zapped the drive using this link: How to fix a split Fusion Drive - Apple Support

and now every time we try to install the OS we get this error: Invalid Request
