how to burn dvd

I have a mid 2010 MacBook Pro with a new SSD. I have tried to burn some video files in .mp4 format to a DVD-R disc using "Finder". It runs for a while attempting to burn the files but then a window opens up that says that the files can not be burned onto the DVD. The following is a screen shot of one of these windows.

I also tried using "Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate" with the same results. Am I missing a step somewhere? Do I have to format the discs?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2010), OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

Hi,

Your profile is well updated? it's well OS X Yosemite?

I give you the complete procedure, we'll see if it works or if you still experience the same problem. There's also a thing about DVD+R or DVD-R, check if your DVDs are of the same brand/model than the ones you normally use.

Insert a blank DVD disc. Be sure it's blank.

You'll see an alert that asks you what you want to do with the disc.

Choose "Open Finder" from the Action pop-up menu.

"Open Finder" is the default choice unless you have modified this default in System Preferences -> CDs & DVDs pane.

Your choice could be then:

Open Finder: Mounts the blank disk in the Finder

Open iTunes: Opens iTunes automatically when you insert a blank CD

Open Disk Utility: Opens the Disk Utility application automatically

Open Other Application: Lets you choose the application to use when you insert a blank CD or DVD disc

Run Script: Runs a specified AppleScript when you insert a blank disc.

Click OK. Your blank DVD mounts, and its icon appears in the Sidebar of Finder (on the Desktop too, if this option checked)

Drag files or folders onto the disc icon in the Sidebar (or on its icon on Desktop) until the disc contains all you want.

When you are ready to burn, open its disc icon and click the Burn button (below the Search field near the top right) (or click the Burn button next to the disk’s icon in Finder's Sidebar).

Choose a speed from the "Burn Speed" pop-up menu (the right one should have been detected by default, if you are not totally sure of the quality of your DVDs, choose a slower speed), click the "Burn" button, and you’re done.

Regards.

babowa, the instructions on how to write onto a DVD states that I should insert the disk into the optical drive and an icon will open up on my desktop. I then click o the icon and a window opens up. I then drag my files into the window and press the "Burn" button. I have done this before because I have DVD's with some previous videos that I transfered. I also DL several DVD apps from the Apple Store. None of them did the job so I am going to guess that my optical drive is damaged. I will buy an external DVD drive and check if it works. If not then it is some other problem on my Mac. BTW, one of the software programs that I bought at the App Store is "Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate".

Almojgar, I followed your instructions exactly as I have done previously and I get the same results with that small window opening up. I think there is something wrong with my optical drive. Since external optical drives are pretty cheap I think I will go purchase one and see if I can resolve the problem. I don't want to replace the internal optical drive because it is some work taking the Mac apart.
