what kind of ethernet cable do i need to copy files from my old macbook pro to my new macbook pro?

If you have wi-fi or an ethernet router in your house you can connect them both to the same network via wi-fi or via standard ethernet cables to the router (i.e., not directly to each other). If your new one only has USB-C and you want to use ethernet: The Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter - Apple
