Turbo Tax problems

After Turbo Tax download I can't retrieve product upgrades. When I try to I receive the following messages: {1). Error Creating File 1008:5,-61. and 2). Turbo Tax cannot be updated if it is running on the CD or is installed in a folder that you do not have the privelages to change. Please log-in to your computer as the user that origionally installed the product before launching Turbo Tax or install the product to your home directory.} Of course the product was installed in my folder and I was logged on to my folder. And Turbo Tax (on my machine) appears to need the disc to operate, when I eject the disc it will not function at all. Help greatly appreciated, want that check! Thank you.

Timothy,

You said: I am at 10.4.8.

In that case, you should update your Opertating System in " My Settings" to indicate that you have the most recent system update installed on your system.

Where/How did you install the TurboTax application? I am asking this question because your original post contains conflicting information. You indicate in your first sentence that you have a downloaded copy, but your last sentence states that you are ejecting a disk.

After the downloaded TurboTax disk image is opened, the instructions state "To install, copy this folder to your hard drive." You may want to consider reinstallation.

Have you attempted to use http://support.turbotax.intuit.com/cgi-bin/turbotax.cfg/php/enduser/home.php?p_s id=vgkRFUti TurboTax Customer Care and Support?

My first post in the discussions board. Tough crowd. I was not aware there was a "my settings". I have updated it to reflect that I am at 10.4.8. My Turbotax copy is from disc. I have discarded and reinstalled. I have been on phone with TT support but call was dropped allllll the way from some foreign land, don't know where it landed. Had to go to work and have not yet tried to recall and understand their attempt at english. Thought I'd try here in this forum, my brother highly recommended it. Thanks.

Timothy,

I am sorry that you got the impression that this is a "Tough Crowd." You registered your account on Aug 3, 2005, and since the post count was reset in November, 2005 there is no direct indication that this was your first post.

Providing accurate information in "My Settings" is crucial for obtaining the correct information in this user-to-user forum. It is meant to be an aid for getting the best help possible.

It is also important for you to provide accurate information regarding any questions that you may be asked. So far after asking two times, I have not found out where your TurboTax application has been installed. The Apple Discussions process requires an accurate exchange of information from all participants.

You said: My Turbotax copy is from disc. This leads me to believe that you are attempting to run it from the disc.

How are you accessing the TurboTax application?

Where is the application located?

Turbo tax went into the applications file and also has a desktop icon when disc is in use. I have used this tax software for many years with windows. This is my first with Mac. I registered the account in August 05 as a new Mac user just to see what the Board was all about, I was curious then about something that I do not even recall. This being the first issue with my Mac, I have posed my first question for help. I will eventually call TT if no one else has experienced this issue trying to retrieve TT updates. Thanks.

A couple of things. Mount the TT disk (the one with the blue label), drag the TT folder that pops up in the disk's window to <your HD>/Applications. When finished, eject the disk, and delete the copy on your desktop. Now navigate to HD/Applications/TurboTax 2006/, open it, and double-click on the TurboTax 2006.app. Now try updating it. I basically think your problem's associated with running the program from the disk. That's bad juju

BTW, the place for TT queries is at their forums: http://forums.turbotax.com/

Timothy,

There should not be any Desktop icon associated with TurboTax when the application is running.

Could you explain what you do to start the application?

Could you describe the appearance of the Desktop icon?

What information can you gather from the Desktop icon when you use the (Command + I) keyboard combination?

What information can you gather when you use the (Command + I) keyboard combination on the TurboTax Application?
Under General I have the following listed:
Kind: Application (Universal)
Size: 143.6 MB on disk
Where: /Applications/TurboTax Deluxe 2006

Thank you for your instructions on install of TT. I deleted all TT applications and reinstalled again. I learned of my mistake from you and Ferd II. It seems that on install of TT, when the install window came up, I would click on it and it would go through all the motions of install but would always fail. But, when I dragged it into my applications file it worked perfectly. It seems that I was clicking instead of dragging. I suppose I've still got a little windows in me. Feels a little like gas. Anyway, thank you for your help in this task. My brother was right, you guys are the greatest!
