White band on left side of MacBook Pro screen

There is a 1.5 inch white band on the left side of my MacBook Pro screen which obscures the part behind the band. When I take a screenshot using preview it shows the entire screen, how to get rid of this band, please advise. thanks

Try resetting NVRAM:

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support
