Screensaver on High Sierra showing deleted photos.

I don't have iPhoto or Photos on my computer. They are on an external HD. I point my screen saver to my "pictures" folder and those deleted pictures that are being shown are not in that folder. They are not in Trash.

Hi,

Probably broken preferences (.plist) files once again...

Starting once in Safe Mode solves 75% of problems here.

Additionally:

In System Preferences -> Desktop & Screen Saver -> Desktop, you must have in the list the folder that contained your deleted photos, 'remove' it from this list [-] then re-add it [+] or choose the possibly new folder you want to add here.

Regards.

Hello jalo29,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding that deleted photos are appearing on your screensaver. I can surely see how this could be a bit confusing. I'm happy to help with this issue.

If you haven't already, restart your Mac by choosing Apple menu > Restart. Restarting can resolve many unexpected behaviors. If the issue persists, try testing in safe mode. Starting in safe mode allows your Mac to run certain checks, remove caches, and prevent login items from automatically launching. This can isolate possible third party issues. Use the steps and information in the link below for assistance with safe mode:

You can't, indeed. You cannot choose not to display your 'Pictures' folder in this list, nor the library of your 'Photos' app. Neither Aperture's library, if you have it like me. All the photos stored in these folders will appear — by default — in this list, and will stay there despite your will. Downright displeasant, IMO...

Maybe you can try to 'add' [+] the subfolder of folder 'Pictures' where were these ghost photos, then to deselect it again [-]... then quit the prefs panel. Relaunch Finder (Apple menu -> Force Quit...) and see if the ghost photos are still in the list...

Regards.

I do have my picture folder that I pointed it to from computer library. If I delete that it will is it just from there? There are 3 folders and 2 of them have nothing in them but there is inn the folder on my HD. I am still stumped how it can show old deleted photos. Is there a cache or something related that I can delete?

at one time I had the pictures folder chosen and it showed every photo in my entire library. Now I have to select a folder within the "pictures" folder. So I obviously cant just select the pictures folder and have it go through all the photos in there? I have made a folder inside that folder named screenshots and just keep adding to that. Thank you for all your help. Was that picture folder in there by default on the desktop page?
