RAM and SSD upgrade for my Early 2011 13-inch Macbook Pro

Hi

I am considering purchasing a Corsair RAM upgrade kit and an SSD for my Macbook Pro 2011. I have a 13-inch, Early 2011 Macbook Pro with 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7. I am currently running macOS High Sierra.

My Questions are:

1. I am considering swapping the HDD for a Samsung 860 EVO 500GB SSD. Will it be worth upgrading my Macbook to an SSD? I am planning on using it for web browsing, imessage, and Spotify.

2. The Apple website says the 13-inch Early 2011 Macbook Pro can only take a maximum of 8GB of ram. I just want to confirm if the 16GB kit will work on my 13-inch Early 2011 Macbook Pro. The kit I am considering is:

Corsair 16GB (2x8GB), PC3-10666 (1333MHz) DDR3 SODIMM For Apple iMac, MacBook and MacBook Pro, CL9, 1.5V, Dual Channel Kit

Has anyone had any experience with these upgrades? Are they worth doing?

MacBook Pro, 13-inch, Early 2011, i7 processor

Hi,

According to OWC (macsales.com) you can upgrade the RAM to 16 GB. Just make sure your MacBook Pro is one of these models MacBookPro8,1, MacBookPro8,2, MacBookPro8,3. You can find your exact model under  -> About My Mac. I've used OWC many times and trust what they recommend. I'm not exactly sure if the kit you mentioned will work but if it falls under one of those models you should be fine. You can always call to make sure.

Upgrading to an SSD will make a huge difference on load times. Just about everything you do will be faster. However, I would only spend the money on these upgrades if you plan to keep your MacBook Pro for a while.
