iPhone X - Low Power or Reverse Charging in Car?

Hello,

Recently I started driving for Uber and using my cars USB connection for charging.

While 'on-screen' Uber Driver software does stay backlit and charging cannot keep up with an OEM iPhone Lightning Cable. I've tried a car lighter adaptor, and my only guess is that the wattage/amps cannot keep up with iPhone X's display active.

The same adaptors will charge the phone when the unit is locked.

I'll use Spotify - Maps - and more with a proper charging working on the back-end.

The phone will remain plugged in (display on) and will actually 'reverse charge' due to this issue.

Has anyone dealt with this situation, as I would like to rectify it?

Thanks!

You need a car charger that can supply at least 1.5 amps. The USB port in most cars can only supply 0.5 amps, that that won't work at all. You also need a high quality car charger certified as Made for iPhone to prevent damage to the phone. Incase and Belkin make quality chargers, and Belkin even has a USB-C charger that would be ideal for an iPhone X.
