Canon PowerShot SX720 HS digital camera's lack of compatibility with Apple's Photo app in High Sierra

I own an 11" MacBook Air (Early 2014) with El Capitain (OS 10.11.6) installed. It has a 1.4GHz Intel Core i5 processor. Its memory is 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Its startup Disk is a Macintosh HD. I also own a Canon PowerShot SX720 HS digital camera. I currently use El Capitain (OS 10.11.6) because Apple's Photo app is compatible with both my MacBook air and my PowerShot 720 camera. I learned after talking to both Canon and Apple (Canon told me to talk to Apple, and Apple told me to talk to Canon) that Apple's Sierra (OS 10.12) Photo app is now (it wasn't earlier) compatible with both my Canon PowerShot 720 and my MacBook Air, so I know I can upgrade to that. There are features on the OS 13 Photo app which I would love to be able to use as described on https://www.macrumors.com/2017/09/25/photos-app-macos-high-sierra. I also love the small-sized PowerShot 720's flexible 24x (wide-angle) to 40x (zoom) lens. Would anyone else enjoy using the upgrade to High Sierra? Does anyone know if Canon has plans to make my PowerShot SX720 HS digital camera compatible with Apple's (OS 10.13)? Does anyone know what would happen if I tried to download and/or edit my pictures in Apple's High Sierra (OS 10.13) Photo app from my Canon PowerShot SX720 HS digital camera? Thank you for your consideration and your help.

MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2014), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), I own a Canon PowerShot SX720 HS d

Not sure why you think or were told that the camera is not compatible with Mac OS. The connection may not be, or it could be the Canon software that isn't (Canon is known to take forever to update their devices to be compatible), but here is the thing:

According to the specs for your camera, you have an SD card in it, right? The images will be .jpeg's. So, you don't need anything except a USB card reader which is compatible with your camera's memory cards. Put the card in it, plug the reader into the Mac, and you should get an icon on your desktop. Double click on it and all your pics should be listed. You can preview them with Preview, import them into Photos, or whatever else you'd like to do with them. You do not need any Canon software for it.
