US Holidays calendar showing Islamic & Hebrew alternates

Checking US Holidays also shows Islamic and Hebrew alternates without them being selected. I don't want to see those. How can I get those holidays off my calendar. I would assume that is why you have alternate calendars. Please tell me how to fix this or please fix it in next release.

Oh, the irony! That is what Apple did. When the 2018 Apple US Holidays calendar published it had only US government employee holidays (plus some fun ones like groundhog day and April Fool's Day). But there was a huge uproar from Facebook groups who were offended that the calendar included April Fool's Day but not Easter, which fell on the same day. So on February 22 Apple re-released the US Holidays calendar with Easter plus the major holidays of the 5 most practiced religions in the US. Which resulted in another uproar.

Why do you want Apple to reinvent the wheel? http://icalshare.com has thousands of free subscription calendars that offer exactly what you are suggesting. And it isn't the only online source of subscription calendars.

You totally missed the fact that it also includes Hindu and Christian holidays (both Roman and Eastern Rite Christian holidays, BTW) without them being selected.

Christian Holidays are traditionally US holidays and treated as national holidays.

Except for the ones that aren't. Of the holidays on the 2018 Federal Holidays list (which is NOT an official list of U.S. holidays as there is no such thing) only one of the ten holidays is a traditionally Christian holiday.

You really got the gist of what I was saying and probably should have left Christian totally out of it and stuck to holidays that are typically recognized within the USA ... like on a bank calendar for 1970. There haven't been any holidays added since then I'm interested in ... and I really don't mind the holidays that a large cross section of Americans all typically get into like Saint Patricks day, Valentines Day, Mother and Father's Day, Halloween, Cinko de Mayo, tax day, national election day, etc. The new Apple default simply went overboard. But the bottom line is the main thing I'm looking for is the main US holidays.

Actually, I think it would be very easy to please pretty much everyone and they aren't that far off if they would simply show a list of calendars that you can select from and have the ability to select multiple calendars that would cover the most asked for options ... but keep each more focused. Nobody seemed to complain much about the old US Holidays calendar and it is nice to have other holidays show up like Saint Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo, April Fools, Tax Day, Election Day, Valentines Day, Groundhog Day, etc. The complaint seemed to be with holidays it did not have so for that have optional calendars like for various religious holidays, seasons (i.e. first day of each season), and others as the requests cross a popularity threshold. The big thing is that Apple stuck to a policy of no overlap between calendars but having several special popular special purpose one that are optional and accessible via Properties, it would resolve much of this problem. In addition, if they had an info button on each selection where you could see the holidays that will be added, then that would also help users decide what calendars they want to see. Again, if they are getting complaints about dates missing, then they could have internal guidelines based on feedback that would drive the creation of a new popular calendar or updates to existing calendar. This would probably satisfy the majority of people and the calendars would most likely become more stable over time so third party calendars would not have any overlap either. The main thing is to define each calendar and stay within the definition of that calendar for any changes.

Then continue to provide support for third party subscriptions so people could add other calendars they are interested in like for sporting events, etc.

This is all something Apple could easily do if they chose to and even include it in the next release since the structure is already mostly in place ... it's simply defining and organizing the optional calendars.

If the calendar preferences had links to other third party subscription providers, then it would be more obvious those things are available ... but it seems to make more sense that Apple do a little extra effort to clean up their defaults so users could add the most basic calendars without going to a third party.

It's really quite similar to the way Apple does apps. They provide a relatively basic set of apps that many people will find sufficient. And then, they left it to third party developers to make the more full featured apps or apps with features that few people might use. Apple's entire philosophy with the iPhone seems to be that most people will use third party options.
