I haven't added an application in years. My wife wants to have Facebook on this laptop. I have had no success using all help files on the MacBook Pro. I can bring up Facebook using Safari but need top add the application to the dock.

There isn’t a Facebook application for Macs. Access the site through your web browser; if desired, drag the little icon to the left of the address to the Dock.

I tried your recommendation - dragging the F allows me to put it on the desktop but will not allow putting it on the dock. I currently have Mac High Sierra Ver. 10.13.6
Put it to the right of the dividing line.
