Phone/Camera hacked or remote control

Got an e-mail that included a password I have used (not currently) stating my camera has been hacked, both front and back. Claiming an RDP was established through a website and video was taken.

Of course they are wanting a large sum of money claiming if I don't comply he will release it to contacts and such.

Also claims a pixel in the email notified of my reading the e-mail.

Is it possible, I don't think so but in today's environment???

If devices are not jailbroken and your Apple ID does not use that password, you should be safe. RDP does not work to connect to iPhones unless perhaps they are jailbroken (even then, I'm not sure).

But if they got your password, you better check https://appleid.apple.com make sure you have a backup email and phone in case you need to recover the account, and follow these steps: If you think your Apple ID has been compromised - Apple Support

Additionally, change your email password, etc.

Also, check which apps have access to your camera: Settings > Privacy > Camera

It's a scam. Ignore it.

Close all your apps, then clear your Safari history and website cookies:

Clear the history and cookies from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

When done, restart your iphone.

Then read this support guide:

Avoid phishing emails, fake 'virus' alerts, phony support calls, and other scams - Apple Support

Firstly, breath - this is a phishing scam! A while back yahoo was hacked and passwords and email addresses were

Stolen and subsequently sold on the Dark Web. What you have received is a phishing email from someone that purchased said information and is trying to find a sucker that is willing to bite. They probably said they have video of you doing something that would be VERY embarrassing if it was sent to all your contacts. Think about it realistically, if they actually had that wouldn’t they include a screen shot in the email to prove it and increase your concern?! Here is a link to an article that discusses this scam, I think you’ll find the wording is VERY similar if not IDENTICAL to the email you received - just delete the email, DO NOT respond to it. Good luck.

Of course Apple don't do that, but the OP never mentioned it was Apple sending the email.

And sure it can be a scam. I was highlighting that out of the hundred of spam/junk email I receive every day, none contains a password I have ever used. My name or mail address, that can be taken from everywhere, not a password I have used.

Anyway, you suggestion was good, hopefully the issue is resolved.
