I received a new iPhone due to a cracked screen and now I can’t receive text messages, I can only start conversations with my cell number etc...
Does it happen using mobile data, wifi, or both?
Are the settings in messages displaying the settings in your Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com ?
Does it happen if you disable iMessage and leave only SMS? (Be careful if there are extra costs)

I can’t remove it, it’s lit up for starting a conversation but I can’t receive any messages even iMessage from anyone who’s messaging my cell number.
Is iMessage enabled in Settings > Messages? And SMS disabled (in case you only want to send iMessage)?
Which accounts do you have in Settings > Messages > Send & Receive ?
I have both SMS and iMessage on
I can only receive messages when I’ve started the conversation no matter if it’s cpmong from an iPhone or an android.

Go to settings down to phone icon click that next page top of page Check your mobile phone number is correct if not change it.
Check settings in messages.
