I have my homepod set up as my main audio output on my appletv. When I try to stream a video(youtube) to the appletv via my iphoneX and I continue to have issues with this working? Is this not something you are able to do? Stream the sound and video from your phone to your AppleTV and homepod?
No because what you are trying to do is:
Airplay from iPhone ---> Apple TV ---> airplay to Homepod.
Airplay doesn't work across multiple devices, i.e no "passthrough".
If you want your audio from your iPhone to go to your Homepod, you need to Airplay from iPhone ---> Homepod.
You can't do iPhone video ---> Apple TV and at the same time
