Sound not working on games

IPhone 8 Plus

sound works fine with videos and music but when opening game apps no sound comes on.

made sure sound is on in game settings

went to settings in iPhone and made sure sound settings on on there too

made sure phone is not on silent and also restarted the phone.

Could it be the 11.4 update ?
