Garageband/Focusrite Scarlet. Unable to record in mono.

Garageband with Focusrite. I can record audio on Stereo but only one side. The fix is apparently is to select mono. But in mono I record nothing (makes empty track with no signal). Connections ok, and I can hear on monitor (headphones). I'm new to Garageband but familiar with Logic Pro. I appreciate your help. 😕

Pressing the red button to record as normal does not record anything.I have unplugged and re-connected the USB cable between the Saffire and my Mac and I can play back what is already recorded on Garageband fine through the interface headphones and can monitor the input signal through the headphones too. I just can't record anything on Garageband through the Saffire interface which otherwise seems to be working fine. The Mac is a new 21" model so there shouldn't be any problem there. Audio Input Audio input works with Garageband, yet tried everything and does not work with Logic Pro. Solutions?

Audio Input on Logic Pro I recently got a new audio interface, and Logic does not pick up the guitar signals, nor does it pick up higher notes through my microphone. The audio interface on the other hand does pick the signals up, so I know it doesn't have anything to do with that. I tried it through GarageBand and it worked but it still will not work through Logic. I feel like I've tried everything including contacting both Apple and Focusrite, and I do not know what to do. Does anyone have anything that might help?

once you set the track to mono, be sure the correct channel is selected; if it's currently set to 1, set it to 2, and vice versa:
