Exporting audio with edited video

Using Logic Pro X, I edited a video after importing. I want to export edited video and audio together as a movie with sound. When I do, Logic exports the unedited video. How can I accomplish this?

Mac mini (Early 2009), OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

How exactly did you manage to edit video in Logic? Apart from exporting video with the soundtrack created in Logic, it's not possible to do anything with video per se. Did you mean that Logic failed to add soundtrack to the video when you performed the exporting?

See 'Export your project audio to a QuickTime movie' here: https://help.apple.com/logicpro/mac/10.4/#/lgcpfff43c19

In your Logic project set cycle markers where you want them. Click File > Movie Export Audio to Movie. A box opens. Name the new movie, select the location you want it saved, Audio format I use Linear PCM. I use 48000 Sample Rate, some people use 44100. Bit Depth 16. Click Save. A new box opens. In the Enabled column check this box if you want to include audio. Click Ok. Now you made a new movie file.

Thanks again for your thoughtful comments. The FC/Logic approach will not be too cumbersome for me. I only need chop off the head and tail of video, then no further video edits are requires...no dissolves, lower thirds, or other effects. Once video is in Logic I won't have ta change anything and will be able to work on and change the audio as much as I like. In my video editing career I had a full-blown Avid suite, and we gave our audio to a dedicatedPro Tools guy. Sweet gig!

Shortening the head and tail in Logic I do all the time. I'll be working on the music and sound design in say a 12 minute short film and I want to show the director what I am doing in say a 2 minute scene. I set the cycle markers and export. This creates a new movie file to the length of the set cycle markers, leaving the original movie file unchanged. Cheers.

Thanks for replying so quickly. I came to realize that even though I shortened the head and tail of the video to conform to my audio, the video itself was not altered which was obvious when I exported and video was unchanged. My plan was to record video and audio on my iPad and simultaneously record my guitar inLogic. It would be easy to sync the two audio tracks. Then I would have full control over the sound of my guitar in logic, and I would just mute the video audio . This was a dream way to easily make videos of my guitar arrangements and have great video and great audio. I shortened the video head and tail, exported, and then saw that the audio was synced with the video, but the original, unwanted video was still there. What I think I will do is trim the video in Final Cut, then export that to Logic

Thanks,

Zimm

There are some DAWs like Reaper that allow some video editing as well but it's somewhat limited. The Logic/Final Cut approach is far more feature rich but you have to go back and forth between them. I've seen discussion in various communities about merging the functionality but not sure that that approach wouldn't just overly complicate the interface. Plus this way you can buy one without the other if you don't need to do both. I've not really thought through it that much but I certainly see both sides.

I certainly don't see a Hollywood movie being edited on Reaper but they are on FCP. As best as I could figure in audio studios, Pro Tools is definitely number 1 with Logic number 2 but haven't heard of pro studios using Reaper. Not saying they don't but it just is a data point. Sometimes putting too much in one app makes it less capable for certain applications I suppose.
