Lose the audio only when I close the laptop

I had success using a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter from my laptop to my TV. From the TV I have a digital audio running to the surround sound. Closed the lid on the laptop. Wireless mouse and I was set. This worked for about a month and now all of a sudden I lose the audio only when I close the laptop. If I turn the TV volume up I get audio but not through the surround system. I think I’ve gone through every imaginable combination of turning things on and plugging things in in different orders and no success. I can leave the laptop open a crack and all is good but the unnecessary added glare from the laptop is annoying. Suggestions?

Ureka! So about 5.2 seconds after I posted my question, one other sequence came to mind that I hadn’t tried yet. With the laptop already closed and the picture only on the TV, I unplugged the thunderbolt from the laptop and plugged it back in. The sound came back to life. Apparently, it just didn’t like continuing the audio after the lid was closed but with it already is closed it’s all good! Such a relief!
