Disk space problems finder versus df -k disk full

I have not been able to use VMWare Fusion because it keeps telling me I don't have enough disk space on my Mac. Finder shows me as having 129 GB of my 1 TB disk available. When I do a df -k in Terminal I get this:

Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity iused ifree %iused Mounted on

/dev/disk1s1 976900220 971333920 3753472 100% 1934160 9223372036852841647 0% /

devfs 186 186 0 100% 646 0 100% /dev

/dev/disk1s4 976900220 1048596 3753472 22% 1 9223372036854775806 0% /private/var/vm

map -hosts 0 0 0 100% 0 0 100% /net

map auto_home 0 0 0 100% 0 0 100% /home

/dev/disk1s3 976900220 506832 3753472 12% 15 9223372036854775792 0% /Volumes/Recovery

It appears I have been deleting files, and Finder thinks they are gone, but the disk still appears to be full. Can anyone help me please?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, macOS High Sierra (10.13.5), 16 GB Ram 1TB
