Connecting USB-C to HDMI (sound issue)

Hello,

I'm trying to play a movie from MacBook Pro 2017 in the VLC player. TV is LG C8 and when connected, MacBook recognize it as 'DisplayPort'.

It seems that DisplayPort has issues with sending 5.1. audio hence why the sound is in 2.0... Any idea how to make my computer to change its mind and recognize TV as HDMI (it is connected via USB-C to HDMI adapter) - that would hopefully resolve the sound issue?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, 4 TBT3), macOS High Sierra (10.13.6)

HDMI port won't work I have a Macbook Air, that has an HDMI/USB-A/USB-C connector. The HDMI port does not work, but the others do. I've tried multiple HDMI cords and multiple TV's. Is there any way to fix it?

MacBook Pro to Sony TV USB-C/HDMI Problem I can’t get sound from my tv after plugging in my USB-C to HDMI cable . I’ve tried everything . In “Output” my cable comes up as Display but says nothing about sound . Also I’ve tried Setting my Sound effects to my TV , creating a new audio device in Audio MIDI Setup ….. all equals nothing . Any help would be greatly appreciated.
