The instructions just say to open View — Customize Toolbar, and to drag the icon up into the toolbar. But there is no Adblock icon in the field. Do I have to manually put the Adblock icon in the Customize field?

Thanks for your efforts, Kylie and all! I did the obvious: uninstalled Adblock and reinstalled, and it automatically appeared in my toolbar. I'm surprised at how simple and quick this fix was.
You may need to check with the developer to see if the plus version also supports being added to the toolbar.

Add a button: Choose View > Customize Toolbar, then drag an item from the palette to the toolbar until you see a green plus sign.
My point is that there is no Adblock "item" in the palette which "Customize Toolbar" opens. Can I drag the Adblock icon from elsewhere? If so, from where? It isn't in Applications.
Yes, in Safari. I had Adblock, and it was in the toolbar, but in extensions I found I had Adblock Plus. So I uninstalled Adblock. I still have Adblock Plus in Safari Extensions. Now I want it in the toolbar where I can turn it on & off, etc.
Adblock Plus is typically associated with a web browser. Are you trying to add this extension to the toolbar in Safari, Chrome, etc.?
I'm sorry! 😓 I do not know. My thing is mainly iPad and iPhone. But, I thought I would try.
