iPhone/iPad Backups No Longer Showing Up in iTunes

Within the last few weeks, backups for my iPad and iPhone have stopped showing up in iTunes for some reason. I have both devices set up to automatically backup to "This Computer" whenever I sync to my PC iTunes via USB, and it shows in the top status window that it is backing up as part of the process. However, my Latest Backup for both devices shows as "Your iPad/iPhone has never been backed up to this computer", and when I go into the preference menu to check devices, they aren't showing up there. That being said, whenever I go to appdate/apple computer/mobile sync/backup, the backup files are still being created there (I can see the time stamp consistent with when the backup operation would have been done).

So, long story short, iTunes looks like it is backing it up and creates the files, but then doesn't show it as actually being backed up at all. Any thoughts here on what could be going on or what I could do to sort it out? I have updated iTunes and all software to latest version and power cycled everything, and getting the same result on both devices which makes me think it is a iTunes issue and not a device issue.

Thanks for the quick reply, I’m actually on a PC and not a Mac.

Sorry, my bad, didn't see "Windows 10" hiding next to iPhone X.

I would still try deleting the backup folders just in case any corruption has set in, then restart your PC and when done try syncing again.

Usually you would get an alert for things like lack of storage space, but worth a check anyhow.

The fact it is common to both devices does seem to point as you say to either iTunes or something interfering from your PC, you could try a different cable and use a different USB port.

I also came across this discussion Your iPhone has never been backed up to this computer.

Some talk about deleting or renaming the backup folder (as above) but the last talks about folder being created but with no other folders or files inside, a Terminal hack appeared to resolve that but not sure for a PC, but maybe removing iTunes altogether and re-downloading/install might "reset" things that a update fails to do (not sure when you delete a PC App does the process also remove config and preference files, or the PC equivalent).

Lastly, this post by sallenmd "Never been backed up" but no error talks about renaming the Backup directory and then doing a Program Repair via the Control Panel (what ever that means).

I hope some of the above helps (and makes amend for getting your PC mixed up with a Mac) 😉

ITunes BackUp’s should be under ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

You could try deleting what is currently in your BackUp Folder via Finder then Restart your Mac, reconnect your device and after iTunes opens and automatically does the backup (hopefully), check to see if a new folder has been created first via Finder and then by iTunes Preferences under the “Devices” Tab.

If you see no folder try clicking on the “Back Up Now” button and when complete again take a look.

Hi

I haven't used pc for backup for 4 years it easy to use iCloud & wifi.

Go to iCloud on iPhone make sure iCloud back up is on Then backup now over your wifi.

Then when you charge an iphone /ipad it automatically backs up to iCloud Over your wifi If you have a problem or buy a new iPhone Then you always have the latest backup.

Go to apple books download ios 11 user guide it.s Free.

Cheers
