Photo Albums from MacBook not syncing to iPhone 6 Plus

Typically I have pictures from iPhone 6 Plus and a camera and import the pictures into Photos (on MacBook Pro 8), place photos in an Album or create a new Album. Then within iTunes select the albums I want to sync onto my iPhone 6 Plus and then Apply/Sync.

However for the past few months this has not worked. Any albums where I have added pictures are now at 0 pictures on my iPhone and any newly created albums are also at 0 pictures. The albums names are present but with 0 pictures.

My iPhone 6 and MacBook are up to date along with iTunes.

Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?
