NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.

Hi,

I am using Mac OS X 10.9.5 in my iMac and I want to switch to Mac High Sierra 10.13.6.

I am getting the following error message from Apple store all the time: (NSURLErrorDomain error -1012.)

Is there other way of getting 10.13.6 system?

Thank

iMac, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5)

What year is your iMac? If it is anearly 2009 or earlier, the latest version of Mac it will go is 10.11.x. If you are not sure, click the Apple symbol in the upper left of the display and select About this Mac.

A 2012 is able to have Mac OS 10.13.6 installed. Please give us a detailed explanation of how you are attempting to install it. Remember we are not there to look over your shoulder to see what you are doing, this is why I'm asking for more detail. The correct method to update Mac OS is to use the Mac App Store, however if that is the method you are using and running into a problem there is likely some conflict being caused by something that has been installed on the computer. In that case please do the following:

Please post an EtreCheckreport of your system. We can then look for obvious issues. Please click the link, download the app and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste it as your reply to this post.

Did you do something to remove those proxies?

Your Time Machine should still be reported.

I wonder if that "booster" software might be causing a problem. It is taking a fair amount of your CPU.

If the proxies are gone, you may be able to update now. However, your machine is just barely capable of running High Sierra. I don't know if you are going to have a good experience with the update.

Aug 6, 2018 12:31 PM in response to surikfromithaca

You have adware installed that is one major issue. Please use the EtreCheck report to uninstall then restart in Safe Mode per Use safe mode to isolate issues with your Mac - Apple Support and then restart normally.

The second MAJOR issue is you don't have your computer backed up!! This will guarantee a loss of critical data, data that cannot be recovered! At the very least please begin using Time Machine to backup your system, there is zero reason to not have a backup plan! If you are not familiar with TM please read How to use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support

Hi,

Using the EtreCheck report I removed adware from my computer and I used Time Machine to back up all my files.

In the EtreCheck, one of the MAJOR issues is Proxies. The report says "network proxies detected". How can I fix it?

When I used Apple Store to upgrade my operating system, I noticed that the error message, NSURLErrorDomain error -1012, disappeared. By clicking updates, I am getting the following screen:

Hello surikfromithaca,

It is certainly possible that those proxies are causing problems for the App Store.

There is nothing inherently evil about proxies. Many people use them for legitimate reasons. Proxies are one of those advanced features that have recently begun to be exploited by malware.

Your EtreCheck report should have information about where to find out more about these proxies.

1. Go to System Preferences > Network.

2. Click your current interface in the list on the left side of the window. (If you have multiple interfaces you use, such as WiFI, wired, and/or cellular, you might have to repeat this procedure for each of them). (Edit: I guess you do have proxies for each interface).

3. Click the Advanced button

4. Click the Proxies tab

Unfortunately, that's about as far as I can go with respect to assistance. Proxies are an advanced topic. If you created these proxies yourself, then they are fine. Leave them alone. If your work or school IT department created these proxies, they are fine. Leave them alone. If you didn't create these proxies and/or don't even know what a proxy is or does, then you should probably disable them.

If you have proxies installed that shouldn't be there, then you might not be dealing with adware. You might have actual malware. It would be nice to see a new EtreCheck report after removing that adware.

If those proxies aren't legitimate, and I'm pretty sure they aren't, you can post post the details in a reply. Proxies can contain personal information if they are from your work or school, so just make sure they aren't before posting them.

I am just confused because your first EtreCheck report showed them, and now it does not. Your statements add to that confusion. First you say you did not remove them, then you said they are gone.

This is one of those cases where EtreCheck just highlights something unusual. Most Mac users have no idea what a proxy is or how to make low-level configuration changes. So if EtreCheck finds those kinds of advanced changes, it points them out. If you made those changes on purpose and are happy with them, that's fine. Just ignore what EtreCheck says about them.

Looking at the Activty Monitor, it seems MacBoosterMini taking the most of the time. Do you have any suggstion what to do with this software?

Pretty much the only thing you can do with misbehaving software is to uninstall it. Pretty much anything listed on an EtreCheck report cannot be uninstalled by dragging it to the trash. You must use a vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. Never try to manually delete files in hidden directories. Never use an "app zapper".

Which does not allow me download and update the new operating system. Looking at the App store scrrn shot, I am getting impression that I have already macOS High Sierra installed. Could you comment on this?

What it is saying is that you have updates available for some Apple apps, but those updates are not available because you are running an older version of the operating system.

It says "installed" because you have probably just downloaded the installer. It is probably sitting in your Applications folder. It should be named something like "Install macOS High Sierra".

But I want to reiterate something important. If you apply that update, you will likely experience a noticeable reduction in performance. Your machine is already running more slowly that it should. Upgrading a 2013 operating system to a 2017 version will only make that worse. I expect you will encounter significant problems. Be prepared to buy a new Mac.

Hi,

I run EtreCheck again ( see bottom of my message), and I did not see any major issue related to the proxies.

When I was running EtreCheck, my backup disk has been disconnected, and maybe it is the reason it says no time machine backup. What is related to the old operating system, I can not upgrade my operating system from the App Store. I already posted the screen shot, which tells that there are two incompatible updates: iMovie and iPhoto. How I can update my operating system by moving from 10.9.5 to the 10.12 or 10.13 . I am getting impression that App Store does not allow to do so.

Best,

Surik

The proxies are gone, and I'd like to upgrade the operating system. The problem that I am having to upgrade operating system, it does not show from where to download the new operating system.

Hi,

About Proxies: if I am not mistaken, before I had HTTPS selected in the Network/Proxies menu, but now I have "Auto Proxy Discovered" option is selected. Do you think this selection solved proxies major issue? The proxies major issue was pointed out from in the first EtreCheck report.

I installed macOS High Sierra. Thank you for pointing out "install macOS High Sierra"is located in my application site.

So far it was working fine. I am having minor issue with my "notes", after setting up iCloud, I can not see my old notes,

and when I am running "notes", it is coming out "empty".
