Dear rkaufmann87,
Now that sounds good BUT you're talking to a numpty here so could you explain in VERY simple terms the stages of doing it as you suggest please? For example "...the old machine's ⢠backup" .... does that mean I select the last ⢠page on my MacBook Pro, connect the MBP to my iMac by USB and then open MA on the new machine? Sorry to sound so dim but it's helpful to the likes off me to list the stages exactly as one needs to work the solution.
Disconnect the MacBook Pro's Time Machine backup HD and then connect it via USB cable to the new iMac. Turn on the new iMac and follow all the on-screen prompts until it asks if you are migrating from another Mac. Select yes, it will then ask if you are migrating from a Time Machine backup, select yes again, then it will ask what you want migrated (data files, settings, apps, etc..) make your selections and then let it migrate.
If you are nervous, when the new iMac arrives and you are ready to migrate you can call AppleCare and they will help you through it.
