Rebooting iphone 8

Ok I read in 10 places online that I press the volume up button, then the volume down button, and then the power button.

I've read here that it takes a while to get the timing right. I did it a number of times and then started counting. I'm on 47 and all I get is the regular shut off (slide the button thing) or I get a SOS call. I've tried changing the timing, holding them all down at the same time, everything.

Is there ANY other way to do this? I can't make it happen, I've tried (1/2 second, 1 second, not happening).

Do you hold pressed the side button long enough after volume up and down?

If you see the dialog for shutting down or slide to power off, or can get to that in settings, you do not need the forced restart as your phone is responding.

If an app is not responding, go to the multitasking screen, double tap on home button, and swipe the non responsive app away.
