Why are my slow mo clips in Final Cut Pro going black?

While editing in Final Cut Pro (Version 10.4.3) on my MacBook Pro, all of my videos recorded in 60fps that I've slowed to 40% speed have turned black. In the storyline, it shows the correct thumbnails, but displayed is simply a pitch black screen. They did not do it immediately after slowing them down. They all did it simultaneously, while I was working on other clips. Is there a reason this is happening that I can fix, or is it a bug?

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, 2 TBT3), iOS 10.3.2

Update: I think it's possible that it was my external hard drive, which I'm using to edit. I think it was just on too long and I guess it couldn't load the slow mo on the clip. I gave my computer and external hard drive a good ten minute break, reloaded Final Cut Pro and everything is working properly now. Still, if you have another reason that could have caused this, please let me know.
