Thunderbolt Display Brightness Slider/Control Missing

Hi MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2017), macOS High Sierra Version 10.13.6

L2-Cache (pro Kern): 256 KB

L3-Cache: 8 MB

Speicher: 16 GB

Boot-ROM-Version: MBP143.0178.B00

Thunderbolt Display:

Displaytyp: LCD

Auflösung: 2560 x 1440 (QHD/WQHD - Wide Quad High Definition)

For some reason there is no brightness control currently showing for the Thunderbolt Display (but is showing for the internal screen - see screenshot below). Resetting PRAM makes no difference. Turning on/off computer and monitor makes no difference. Between the MacBook and the display is one of these adapters Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter - Apple (UK) (the new MacBooks are only USB C).

Any ideas?
