how to clear private browser history on ipad

Wondering what it takes to clear private browser history/recently visited sites on the iPad. Anyone know? Doesn’t follow the same rules as on the imac. Seems strange that “private” browsing would be doing this at all.

Thanks in advance.

You can disable top hits, but not edit them. They are populated based on your search history. From the note in Settings > Safari > About Safari Search & Privacy...

With Preload Top Hit enabled, as soon as Safari determines a Top Hit based on your bookmarks and browsing history, Safari will begin loading the web page in the background.

You can turn it on and off, but it will be based in either the search engine provider (as if you go to Google and start typing any site) or your browsing history in Safari itself.

For a single site, open Safari > tap on the History button > scroll until you find this site > swipe left to delete the site. It will stop appearing when you type a URL as it is no longer in your history.

EDIT: if iCloud is enabled in your computer you can also do it from your there, where it is probably more convenient to browse your history of sites.
