i have automatic updates enabled in Settings on both iPhone and iPad running the most recent iOS. IPad updates regularly, but iPhone does not. I’ve checked Settings and rebooted the iPhone. Still not working. does anyone have any ideas?

There’s no problem updating apps when I go to the App Store and click on "update." My frustration is that even though I have set them to automatically update, I have to MANUALLY update them on my phone. I have the same settings enabled in my iPad Air, and those work automatically.
As you can see from my original question, automatic updates ARE enabled. When I check my phone, I can have 25 apps waiting to be updated. So it’s unfortunately not as simple as having nothing to update. Something else is going on.

I'm clueless... and yes, I would walk (or drive) to your most convenient Apple Store or Authorized Service Provider and see if they can work it out: Apple - Find Locations - Location Selector
P.S. No, I had the 7th year examination but... in the same year I failed at the high school (Liceo) and my father decided that the school was more important than the conservatory. Stop 😕.

Thanks, Giulio. I just did as you suggested. I have no apps to update now, so here’s hoping this works for the next ones. And yes, both devices use the same Apple ID.

Yes, that's weird.
Vintage (but sometimes still useful) tip:
On your iP7: disable automatic updates, restart the device, re-enable automatic updates
Are those devices using the same Apple ID?

Giulio, I’m afraid your suggestion, helpful and logical as it was, did not solve my issue. Any other ideas, or should I go the Genius Bar route?
P.S. When you left the conservatory, did you pursue a musical career or do you just enjoy being at the piano?

What kind of error are you getting when you try to update your 25 apps?
Are you connected to a reliable and possibly fast wifi network with internet access?
