How to TURN OFF sounds for iPAD messages/email alerts

How do you TURN OFF ALL sounds for iPad messages/email alerts?

I have all SOUNDs turned OFF for messages and emails but keep getting the dang incoming alert sounds everytime I get a message or email. Dang frustrating!

Next issue:

First, when someone signs up here to comment.. why do y'all think its a good idea to send them to the home page rather than back to the page where they signed up to comment from? If someone hits reply and it forces them to sign up to do so,,, then return them to where they were trying to comment. Its 2017 the net isn't new and that isn't hard.

Basically this website is created by the same backwards thinking people from Apple as described below.

Second, if people have to google how to turn off the volume on a feature on your device, then you have a UI problem.

Seriously, you just got a new iPad...set up messages and email, turn OFF all alert sounds for each, and keep getting blasted sound alerts all dang night! So HOW IS THIS DONE, HOW DO I SHUT THIS DANG THING UP? And why doesn't OFF mean OFF?

Nearly everything else on the planet for the general public, you can look at it and know how to use it. I never had to google how to use a self checkout. Never had to google to use an ATM. never had to google to use a digital gas pump.. and didn't have to google as much with my droid, but apple. .. seems like I am on google every day for itunes, iPad, iPhone BS that should be dang intuitive.

Why do Apple engineers have to create things that are so different even if it creates a lost user?

So frustrating...

Settings>Notifications>Messages, Settings>Notifications>Mail. Note that if you have more than one email account, you'll need to turn off notifications for both. Also, turn of VIP notifications. If you're using a different email app (for example, I use InBox), you'll need to turn off notifications for that app as well.

Turn off the the sent mail sound in Settings>Sounds>Sent Email. You can't turn off the sent email sound for Messages.

I get what you are having me so. You are essentially having me turn off notifications for messages and email.

When I do this, yes the sound alert does not occur, but now I do not get the little number notification in the upper right corner of the messages or email icon to tell me how many unread I have.

I can deal with this, but why then is there a SOUND ON OFF selection inside Notifications? What useless selection is this for?

I didn't tell you to turn notifications off. I was telling you where to turn the sound off. You can leave the badges set to one if you want. Turning the sound off does exactly what it says it does: turns the sound off. If that's not happening on your device, then something is not working correctly. I'd suggest resetting your settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. It's a bit annoying to have to redo all of your settings but it can resolve some problems. If that fails, restoring your device from a back up and restoring from new would be your next options, in my opinion.

Also, If I turn the external mute button to ON on the iPad it will then mute all alerts and keep the little number notification in the upper right corner of the icons. This I can live with also except for I have no idea exactly what this mutes and does not mute. Which means I will eventually get raped by this iPad when I learn it now mutes something I am expecting to not be muted.

This all goes back to why does Apple "have to" be different even if it alienates the usability of the product.

Been like this since I owned an Apple IIc in 1984. I guess I shouldn't complain since I keep coming back like an abused wife that still loves her husband.
