ATI radeon 9800 256 Mb special edition

It could be very well be a heat issue. These modded cards have been known to generate alot of heat. And even the fan attached isn't enough. It's recommended to get a PCI cooling fan to add airflow for the card.

Where does one get one of these PCI cooling cards? Can I go to the Apple Store and pick one up?

does anyone know how I can tell if the 9800xt card I have is a PC or Mac edition... it was given to me and I want to sell it on EBAY but cant tell which edition it is...

I believe ATI can tell from the serial number prefix. Best to send them the model and serial number on your card and let them sort it out.

It think that the fact that it is a 9800xt should give it away (that it is a PC model).

Personally, I wouldn't trust a flashed "modded" video card bought off ebay. If properly done, the card will work just as good in a Mac as it would a PC, but you have zero warrenty and support from the manufacturer. I know that the low price and the possibility of running a better card then what is offered for Macs is appealing, but unless you know how to flash, don't bother.

On another note, the Radeon 9600, in my opinion, is the best card currently available for the MDD. The specs for the 9800 look more impressive, but like I said, in my opinion the 9600 is the better card. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435065/

I bought one of these cards used off eBay. I am about to install into a MDD G4 Powermac. Do I need to uninstall the original drivers from the card that is in the mac now? Do I need to install new drivers for this card or will they be automatically found upon boot up after installation?

OSX has the drivers included. No need to change anything.

Do you have pins 3 and eleven taped? If you do check and make sure the taper did not wrap any around to the front side of those pins.

I have just purchased a MAC EDITION ATi RADEON 9800 PRO 256MB AGP from this supplier:

Couldn't belive the price! Any how its just arrived with out any original packaging, its certainly not brand new. I've installe the drivers from ATI's website and put the card in. My mac won't boot, the power button doesn't light up. I am using the Apple DVI to ADC converter to power my Apple Display 17"

Is this a dud card? is there any test I can do?

At that price, the cards are either duds, or PC (which possibly have been flashed). It is possible that these are genuine Mac cards, but I find the price highly suspect as everyone else sells these cards at 3x's the amount (even used).
