ATI radeon 9800 256 Mb special edition

Does anyone know if I can use an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac special edition 256MB DDR on my mirror door G4 Dual 1.42
Their is lots of info on the now AMD website about 4x and 8x AGP which I don't understand. I don't know if my MDD FW 800 mac is 4x AGP ? If it is I believe it will be compatible. Can anyone help me. I must explain that I have Multiple Sclerosis which had damaged my brain/hard drive cache directory so simple things of understanding are sometimes beyond my.
Thanks I hope someone can help me understand about compatibility of this card.

Hi-

You'll need to buy one at a PC shop, or order on the net. The following should work in your MDD (check clearances):

G4AGP(450)Sawtooth, 2ghz PowerLogix, 2gbRAM, 300gbSATA+160gbATA, ATI Radeon 9800 Mac OS X (10.4.8) Pioneer DVR-109, ExtHD 160gb x2, 23"Cinema Display, Ratoc USB2.0, Nikon Coolscan

It think that the fact that it is a 9800xt should give it away (that it is a PC model).

Personally, I wouldn't trust a flashed "modded" video card bought off ebay. If properly done, the card will work just as good in a Mac as it would a PC, but you have zero warrenty and support from the manufacturer. I know that the low price and the possibility of running a better card then what is offered for Macs is appealing, but unless you know how to flash, don't bother.

On another note, the Radeon 9600, in my opinion, is the best card currently available for the MDD. The specs for the 9800 look more impressive, but like I said, in my opinion the 9600 is the better card. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435065/

Hi,
I have just purchased a MAC EDITION ATi RADEON 9800 PRO 256MB AGP from this supplier:

http://jitsurplus.com/ati-radeon-9800-pro-256m.html

Couldn't belive the price! Any how its just arrived with out any original packaging, its certainly not brand new. I've installe the drivers from ATI's website and put the card in. My mac won't boot, the power button doesn't light up. I am using the Apple DVI to ADC converter to power my Apple Display 17"

Is this a dud card? is there any test I can do?

any help most appreciated.
nipx
